    Attendance

As part of this agreement, we kindly request that students and parents/carers carefully consider their commitments, such as family events, school engagements, and other activities, before enrolling in Adagio Performing Arts School. Whether it's preparing for exams, working towards performance events, or building consistent technique, frequent absences pose significant challenges for everyone involved, hindering progress and potentially leading to students being excluded from performance pieces or not being entered for exams.

We understand that occasional absences may be unavoidable, but we sincerely ask that you prioritize training and rehearsals to ensure that everyone can achieve the highest standards of development. In the case of performance or competition teams, which require audition-based entry, multiple absences may result in the student losing their place.

By considering these commitments and actively participating in training and rehearsals, we can collectively foster a conducive environment for growth and excellence in performing arts.

    Code of conduct

While inside the building and during lessons, it is expected that students behave in a polite and respectful manner towards teachers, staff, and fellow students.

We value effective communication between students and teachers; however, unnecessary talking during class is discouraged to maintain focus on training.

Any disruptive behaviour may result in the student being asked to leave the class, and further action may be taken if the behaviour persists. It is important to ensure prompt drop-off and pick-up of students so that classes can start on time. If there is an issue with collecting your child, please contact the studio or teacher to inform us of the situation.

Parents/guardians have the responsibility to inform Adagio Performing Arts of any injuries or medications that may affect the student's participation in training. It is also important to disclose any learning difficulties so that we can provide the necessary support and nurturing. For example, if a student has dyslexia, it may impact their coordination or recitation of text. By being aware of such challenges, we can develop alternative learning approaches to assist the student's progress.

It is the student's and parent/guardian's responsibility to regularly read emails, check the website, notice board, or social media to stay fully informed about upcoming commitments and events. If you have any queries, please refrain from approaching a teacher between classes unless it is urgent and relevant to the immediate situation, as this can cause delays for the next class. Queries can be emailed, and they will be answered as soon as possible.

Any form of unacceptable behaviour towards staff, other students, or parents from a student, parent/guardian, or anyone associated with them will not be tolerated. Confrontation, aggression, defamation, or any actions unbecoming of a member of Adagio Performing Arts School will be met with appropriate measures, which may include suspension or even exclusion without refund.

In the event that damage is caused to Adagio Performing Arts School property or premises by a student, their parent/guardian, or anyone associated with them, the management reserves the right to charge the parent/guardian for any necessary repairs, labour, or replacements.

    Examinations

Our policy for entering students for professional examinations is characterized by careful consideration and individual attention. The decisions regarding exam entry are based on each student's ability to meet and exceed the required standards for their respective grade, rather than solely relying on previous results or the duration of time spent in a particular grade.

It is important to recognize that students develop at different paces, and as the difficulty level of grades increases, it will naturally impact each student's progression path differently.

To participate in examinations and exam practices, all associated fees must be paid in full before the exam date. Our examination boards are recognized worldwide and consequently experience high demand. As a result, there may be occasions when students are required to take time away from school to participate in their exams.

We strive to provide opportunities for our students to showcase their skills and achieve professional recognition through these examinations, ensuring that their talent and dedication are appropriately acknowledged.

    Shows & Performances

At Adagio Performing Arts School, we strongly believe in providing students with a comprehensive training that encompasses all aspects of performing arts, including performance work. Whether it's a full-scale production or a small bespoke event, we aim to include or consider every student of appropriate age and level, with auditions being conducted when necessary.

Performances typically require additional rehearsal time, costumes, and, depending on the event, entry fees. Therefore, there may be additional charges for parents/guardians associated with these performances. It is important to note that if, for any reason, your child is unable to participate in performance work, we kindly request that you contact us as early as possible to discuss the situation. However, please be aware that you may still be liable for the cost of costumes that have been specifically purchased for your child.

By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you acknowledge and accept the additional time and financial commitments associated with performance work. We appreciate your understanding and support in providing valuable performance opportunities for our students.

    Liabilities & Duty of Care

    • Adagio Performing Arts School does not accept responsibility for any items lost, damaged, or stolen before, during, or after classes or rehearsals.
    • Adagio is not responsible for the safety of your child outside of lessons or performances, both on and off our premises. It is important to ensure proper supervision at all times, including in the carpark.
    • Adagio takes its responsibility for the health and safety of all students, teachers, staff, and volunteers seriously. Measures are in place to ensure a safe environment, including regular risk assessments of premises and equipment.
    • While every care and safety measure is taken, injuries can occur in dance, which is as physically demanding as any sport. Adagio accepts no responsibility for injuries sustained unless they result from negligence on the part of a teacher.
    • All staff members hold enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates and valid insurance. Permanent teachers are first aid trained and have first aid kits on-site. Chaperones and volunteers undergo appropriate training and hold licenses.
    • Any injuries sustained in class or rehearsal will be treated appropriately, recorded in the accident book, and reported verbally or in writing to a parent/guardian.
    • In case of an emergency where the parent/carer is absent or cannot be contacted, it is understood that the teacher or principal will act as a loco parentis as necessary.
    • If assistance from emergency services or out-of-hours medical professionals is required, parents/guardians will be contacted promptly. For example, if an ambulance is called, the parent will be notified after the ambulance has been summoned to prioritize the student's urgent medical attention.
    • Teachers in the school may occasionally use physical intervention, such as adjusting arm lines, as part of effective teaching techniques. It is important for all parents and guardians to understand that this is considered necessary for the safe and effective teaching of dance technique. The principal regularly monitors the level of physical correction. If a parent/guardian is unhappy with this teaching technique, they should raise their concerns with the principal immediately. The principal will document the concerns and take appropriate action if necessary.
    • Adagio recognizes that every child has the right to a life free from bullying. Allegations of bullying are taken seriously, and effective measures are in place to address such issues.
    • Adagio acknowledges the importance of the health and well-being of our students. We operate an open-door policy where children and parents can discuss concerns at a convenient time. However, it should be understood that if anything arises during these discussions that require further intervention, such as a child disclosing abuse, it will be escalated to ensure the child's safety.

    Photo & Video Permission

    • On occasions, photographs and/or video footage may be taken during classes, performances, and events for marketing or evaluation purposes.
    • Recordings of shows may be provided for students/guardians to purchase.
    • Student details will never be shared unless specifically requested and consented by a parent/guardian in appropriate situations.
    • Adagio retains full rights to use images/footage and any reproductions or adaptations in various forms such as print, social media, online platforms, fundraising, publicity, or other purposes that align with the studio's positive aims.
    • Parent/guardian permission for the use of photos and video is given at registration. However, it is important to note that permission can be retracted at any time by contacting Adagio.
    • If there is a safeguarding issue regarding a child being involved in the taking of photos and video footage, please contact Adagio to discuss a safe solution that prioritizes the child's safety.

    Social Media

we value the enthusiasm of students who wish to promote their dancing, projects, and workshops. However, we kindly ask that you carefully consider the following points before posting and tagging anyone online:

    • Remember that even when acting in your personal capacity, you still represent Adagio Performing Arts School.
    • Clearly indicate that any views you express are personal and do not reflect the views of Adagio.
    • Refrain from criticizing fellow students on social media. If you have concerns about how someone is treating you, we encourage you to have an open and honest conversation with us so that we can provide assistance.
    • While we appreciate your excitement, please refrain from creating groups or events to advertise performances in which you are involved, unless specifically requested to do so.
    • Keep in mind that everything you post on social media is visible to the world, even if you believe it disappears after a short time. Exercise good judgment in how you represent yourself and others online.
    • Any misuse of social media that causes offense or harm to another student, or brings the reputation of the school into question, will result in appropriate actions being taken.

By adhering to these guidelines, we can maintain a positive and respectful online presence that upholds the values of Adagio Performing Arts School.

    External/ Additional Opportunities

At Adagio Performing Arts, we encourage students to participate in recommended activities that enhance their overall experience. However, we kindly request that students who attend Adagio do not consistently take dance classes elsewhere in subjects that we offer. This measure is in place to prevent conflicts in training methods and to safeguard the development of each student.

As a matter of professionalism and courtesy, it is important to seek permission before participating in external workshops, productions, or training intensives. This allows us to ensure that the standards and safety of the activity align with our expectations, and that the event does not clash with any commitments scheduled by Adagio.

By respecting these guidelines, we can maintain a cohesive and focused training environment that maximizes each student's growth and progress.

    Termination of membership or complaints

We strive to ensure the happiness of all students at Adagio. However, we understand that occasional issues may arise over an extended period of time. If you encounter any difficulties with events at Adagio, please follow the following procedure:

    • In the first instance, if appropriate, please discuss the matter with the teacher of the class to seek resolution.
    • If a satisfactory conclusion is not reached, we encourage you to make an appointment with the principal to address and resolve the issue.

If you decide to discontinue attending classes at Adagio, we kindly request that you provide a written notice period of 6 weeks (equivalent to half a term). This allows sufficient time for administrative procedures to be carried out and for the vacant place to be filled. Additionally, we view this notice period as a reflection period to ensure that the decision is considered and appropriate.

By following this procedure, we aim to address concerns effectively and maintain open lines of communication, ultimately fostering a positive experience for all involved.
