We would like to thank you for being a member of the Bath School of Dance Community. Enrolment with the School confirms acceptance of these terms and conditions. Please read these carefully and contact the School should you have any queries.
Please scroll down to read our separate Terms and Conditions for adult dance classes.
Terms and Conditions for under-18s
Fees
- Invoices will be submitted for classes ahead of each term. Fees for dance classes are paid by direct debit monthly.
- If you have problems making payment on time, please contact the Schoo to discuss options ahead of the deadline for payment.
- Unexplained late payments will incur a £5 administration charge. Children may also be asked to sit out of class until payment is received.
- Any payment made by BACS should be made to Bath School of Dance, Account number: 84467038, Sort Code: 04-00-03.
- A £25 enrolment fee/annual membership fee per student (capped at £55 for siblings) is payable on joining the School and in September’s invoice each year. This fee helps towards the costs of insurance and licences and allows the School to keep class costs low.
- All members of the School will benefit from free or subsidised places on guest workshops or social events throughout the year, as a thank you for being part of the School’s community.
Notice policy
- Any student intending to withdraw from lessons is required to provide 1 month’s notice in writing.
- For shorter notice periods, fees must be paid in lieu of notice.
- Fees are non-returnable.
Cancelled or rescheduled classes
- If we are unable to run classes in the studio due to circumstances such as snowfall, we will instead run the classes online using Zoom.
- If a class is cancelled altogether, the class will either be rescheduled for a later date or a credit for cancelled classes will be added to the customer's account.
Emergency contingency plan
- In the event of a local, national or global emergency meaning in-person classes need to cease, classes will revert to online Zoom classes with immediate effect, until it is safe to return to the studio.
- Refunds or credits for classes will not be available in an emergency lasting one month or less, so please ensure you are happy with the risk of reverting to online classes before paying the term’s fees.
- If you are not able to partake in online classes for accessibility reasons, such as not having access to the technology, please contact the School Principal to discuss alternatives.
- In the event of an emergency lasting longer than one month, a credit will be offered for those not wishing to partake in classes online. The timetable will also be condensed, and class content adapted as required, for those wishing to continue online.
Uniform and hair
- The full and correct uniform must be worn for classes and rehearsals. Uniform information can be obtained from the School.
- Hair for girls must be worn in a neat ballet bun for all ballet classes. Where it is not possible to put hair in a bun, for example if hair is too short, it should be neatly tied back from the face, with a ballet headband where necessary.
- Hair for Contemporary Dance students should be tied back neatly from the face.
- Jewellery must not be worn during classes. Only stud earrings are allowed. For security reasons we recommend jewellery is not brought to classes.
Attendance and behaviour
- Students are asked to commit to attending classes regularly. If you are unable to make classes for a period, please let the School know in advance. Unexplained absences of three or more weeks in a row will be followed up by the School.
- The School aims to foster a welcoming and friendly environment for all students. Our classes are disciplined whilst having fun. Misbehaving students are given three verbal warnings before they are asked to sit out of the lesson. If the problem persists, parents are spoken to in person and in writing.
- We do not discriminate nor condone discriminatory behaviour by our students, parents and teachers on race, religion, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability nor any other special circumstances. Anyone found guilty of discriminatory behaviour will be asked to leave the School.
Illness & injuries
- Please report any illness or injury to the School immediately so that we can make reasonable adjustments and ensure a safe working environment for our students.
- Those with symptoms of an infectious illness are asked to remain at home until symptoms have ceased. Individuals feeling well enough to dance will be offered the opportunity to join their class by Zoom, allowing them to continue their dancing at home.
- In the event of a teacher need to remain at home due to an infectious illness, affected classes will either be covered by another teacher, or will revert to online Zoom classes. Refunds or credits for classes will not be available when the option to join online is given.
Grievances
- All grievances should be escalated to the School’s Director in person or in writing who will deal with the situation as appropriate.
General
- Mobile telephones should be turned off during class.
- In the event of an accident or extreme illness and parents cannot be contacted, we are in loco parentis and will call an ambulance unless we have received specific advice to the contrary from parents.
- No valuables are to be left in changing areas at the hall as the School cannot accept responsibility for any losses incurred on the premises. Items found by teachers will be kept safe until claimed.
- Students should not arrive at the studio any earlier than 5 minutes before their class and are asked to wait quietly until the previous class has finished.
- Parents are not permitted to watch weekly classes; however there are up to three opportunities per year, at the end of term, to view the children’s progress. These opportunities will be communicated to parents in advance. Update - please note that watching weeks will not run whilst social distancing measures are in force due to Covid-19.
