Competence Requirement:
All teachers must have previous relevant teaching experience, be first aid trained, and have a full enhanced DBS and public liability insurance.
Control measures which should be in place:
Clearly defined signal to inform class to stop working and pay attention to teacher
Boundary working area clearly marked and defined, e.g. use of benches/cones/spots etc.
Teacher able to see the whole class / group at all times
Adequate time and appropriate area / space for class to change in to and out of dance kit to prevent risk of injuries associated with rushing, e.g. tripping over clothes
Appropriate warm up and cool down periods to avoid injuries.
No actions involving weight on heads, e.g. headstand actions, to be permitted
Pupils to wear appropriate kit: t-shirts, shorts, leggings, leotards, soft rubber soled plimsolls, trainers, shoulder length hair tied back with soft ‘scrunchie’
Teaching staff to wear appropriate kit.
All jewellery to be removed
Student’s belongings to be cleared to the side out of the dance space to avoid trip hazards.
Water bottles at the front of the room to avoid spills in the dance space.
Children to be discouraged from activities deemed as “risky play” by the teacher.
Curtain Call to be made aware if students have any health conditions, additional needs or special requirements.
Pupils to be made aware of the protocol if a fire were to occur and be aware of the nearest fire exits are.
Equipment stored safely and appropriately to minimise distance carried, e.g. benches, trestle tables, stools, and students shown how to use and carry equipment safely and appropriately
Manual Handling techniques to be employed when moving any equipment
Students to be discouraged from climbing on any apparatus/benches etc.
Teacher to risk assess the space when they arrive to ensure trip/slip hazards are removed.
Children to inform teachers when leaving the room or going to the bathroom.
Appropriate staff to student ratios.
Safeguarding Policy
Ensure that all teachers training is up to date; including safeguarding children.
Recognising and responding to all forms of abuse.
Responding to allegations of abuse made against a child.
Curtain Call to be made aware if students have any health conditions, additional needs or special requirements to ensure inclusivity is maintained at all times.
Recruiting the right people to work and volunteer with children. All teachers must have previous relevant teaching experience, be first aid trained, and have a full enhanced DBS and public liability insurance.
Pupil’s parents must provide a password for their child upon collection; to ensure that the children are going home with the correct adult at the end of club.
Children to always inform the teacher before leaving the room, to ensure all children are accounted for at all times.
Preventing and responding to bullying; discussing with parents and suspension or exclusion from club required.
Recording and reporting any welfare concerns.
Responding to concerns about online abuse.
Upholding GDPR regulations, confidentiality and handling information, in a sensitive manner, is an imperative.
Ensuring photographs and images of children are taken, stored and shared appropriately.
Whistleblowing - All whistle-blowers are protected by law – No one should be treated unfairly or lose your job because they ‘blow the whistle’. Staff can raise your concern at any time about an incident that happened in the past, is happening now, or you believe will happen in the near future.
