Safety
HBS is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for employees, contractors, dancers and
visitors. No child should be left without the parent being satisfied that their child is in class. Children from Leap into Dance upwards may be brought early to class and given to an HBS teacher. Parents may also pick up a little late if necessary. In both situations prior arrangement must be made.
Please make sure that:
In the event of an evacuation, HBS staff have guidelines to follow to ensure the safety of dancers.
HBS has a first aid kit on site however, in the event of a medical emergency, a dancer’s parent/s or guardian will be contacted for the child to be picked up or permission will be asked to take the child to the nearest
medical centre. In the event of a serious emergency an ambulance will be called.
Please ensure no fire exits are blocked at all times.
We ask that you inform HBS staff of any medical or other conditions of your dancer(s) that you feel are important for HBS staff to be aware of.
Our staff undertake Mandatory Notification Training and Basic First Aid Training and have DHS clearance.
Photographs and Privacy
At times photographs may be taken of your child for use in teacher training or as part of class. Your permission will be requested before this takes place. HBS will not use any photographs online or on social media without carer permission.
Any information given to HBS is used for the purpose of Hills Ballet School administration only. We will not share information with other parents.
Dance Risk Assessment
HBS staff take the utmost care to provide a safe dance experience. Unfortunately hazards exist in all activities and parents should be aware of the hazards that exist.
We have identified the following hazards associated with dance and our premises, and identified the following controls to minimise accidents. If you are concerned for the physical health of your child undertaking this activity please consult a sports therapy specialist and advise HBS staff.
Hazards: Personal injury, student-to-student contact, slipping and tripping.
Controls: Dance to take place only in studios, first aid kit on site, appropriate footwear, class sizes kept to safe levels, studios cleaned, studio floors kept free of obstacles, staff to undertake first aid course every 3 years, warm up before class and stretching only after class, verbal warnings to be sensible and careful.
Please note: the nature of dance and acrobatics requires student-teacher contact for the purposes of placement, correction of technique and support.
Covid Policy
Hills Ballet School will follow guidelines and restrictions as set out by the SA Government. In the event of a closure we will continue to provide our classes online.
Cancellation of a class by HBS

Bushfire & Extreme Weather Policy
On Catastrophic Fire Days and in instances of extreme weather classes will be cancelled. Parents will receive an SMS and email notification the evening beforehand when possible. In the instance of some unforeseen circumstances (particularly power cuts) some or all of these methods of communication may be unusable. We apologise in advance if this occurs and thank you for your patience.
