Code of Conduct for Parents, Carers and Guardians
The purpose of our Code of Conduct is to provide a clear framework within which anyone involved in the club are expected to conduct themselves. Our Codes of Conduct reflect the British Gymnastics’ standards of behaviour for gymnasts, coaches, parents and guardians.
As a parent/guardian I have the right to:
· Be assured that the gymnasts in our care are safeguarded during their time with us.
· See any of our policies and procedures at any time.
· Know who the Safeguarding and Wellbeing officers are who are responsible for the gymnasts and have their contact details.
· Know what training and qualifications our staff have.
· Be informed of problems or concerns.
· Know what happens if there is an accident or injury.
· Be informed of injuries and see any records of any accidents.
· Have your consent sought for all activities.
· Have any concerns about any aspect of the gymnast’s welfare listened to and responded to.
How I will behave and what I will do:
· Maintain an open and positive relationship with the coach. Remember that they are the coach, not you; you should talk to them with respect and encourage your child to do the same.
· Encourage your gymnast to learn the rules and participate within them. Take the time to talk to your gymnast about what you both want to achieve through sport but ultimately it is their choice whether they want to participate.
· Set a good example by recognising good sportsmanship and applaud the good performances of all gymnasts. Behave positively whilst watching – only shout encouragement.
· Please use the designated channels for communication with the coaching team. We have an email address and WhatsApp groups for the Senior Squad and Development squad. Please be respectful of the coaches’ rights not to be contacted via their own personal What’s App or Messenger accounts.
· Be patient with your gymnast’s progress. Gymnasts progress according to their age, ability, and stage of maturation. Please bear in mind that long term improvement is the ultimate goal.
· Ensure that your gymnast arrives on time for the sessions and always collect your gymnast promptly at the end. Always let a coach know if you are running late or someone else is collecting your gymnast.
· Ensure your gymnast is fit and well to participate. Do not send them if they are unwell or injured, If you are unsure, speak to a coach before leaving.
· Do not force your gymnast to take part.
· Do not distract your gymnast during a session.
· Ensure your gymnast is brought safely into the gym and collected from the gym entrance at the end of the session.
· At a competition, accept the official’s judgement, do not approach the judges’ table, and do not enter the field of play or warm up area.
· Ensure that your gymnast is wearing the appropriate clothing for the session. Please remove all jewellery and tie hair back.
· Ensure your gymnast always brings a drink to sessions.
· Please inform the club if your gymnast is unable to attend
· Ensure that the club has up to date contact details for the person with parental responsibility. Please notify the club of any changes at the earliest opportunity.
· Inform your gymnast’s coach of any illness, injury or ailment which may affect their performance or safety in the gym, or the safety of others.
· Ensure your gymnast has any medication required with them at every session, e.g. an inhaler or emergency medical kit.
· Think about the way you react and behave.; it will have an effect on everyone around you.
· Encourage your gymnast to respect and celebrate difference in sport.
· Use social media responsibly when talking about what goes on in gymnastics.
· Adhere to our policy on the use of photography and filming, including videos of participants on social media.
· Ensure your gymnast understands their Code of Conduct.
The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officers are there for you and the gymnasts. If you have any worries or concerns, please talk to them. You can also email them at
PAGC-Welfare@outlook,com or scan the QR code in the gym to raise any concerns.
We expect everyone to follow their Code of Conduct. If any parent behaves in a way which contradicts any of the points set out above, we will address the problem straight away and aim to resolve the issue.
Persistent concerns or breaches will result in us having to liaise with Welsh Gymnastics to trigger the 3-step system:
Step 1 – Verbal Warning
Step 2 – Written warning
Step 3 – Suspension from attending any gymnastics activity.
If the threshold is met, suspension will be immediately triggered.
Please tick to sign and agree.
