CODE OF CONDUCT

Participants / Gymnasts

As a member of POINT ACROBATICS GYMNASTIC CLUB you are expected to abide by the following rules.

The Coaches are responsible for the gymnasts while they are in the gym. Gymnasts must therefore behave and treat the coaches and other volunteer staff with respect at all times.

Gymnasts should always listen to the coaches when they give advice. The coaches will make all decisions relating to training and partnership groups, according to ability and experience.

Gymnasts must respect the rights, dignity and worth of others.  All individuals must treat people fairly and equally, regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin, religion or political persuasion or disability.

Gymnasts should support all gymnasts in training and competition.

Gymnasts should work hard during training and should always behave appropriately.

Gymnasts should arrive on time for training and competitions or inform the coaches if they are going to be late.

Gymnasts must advise the coaches in advance if they are unable to attend a training session.

Gymnasts must advise the coaches if they have an injury or are feeling unwell.

Gymnasts must be properly dressed for training and events as agreed with the coaches.  Leotards must be worn at all times (for gymnasts above recreational level), strictly no jewellery, watches or body jewellery.  Long hair must be in a bun (or tied back if a bun is not possible).  Bare feet (or suitable protective socks if foot infections are a problem).

Gymnasts must pay any fees for training, events and insurance promptly.

Gymnasts should take pride in their Club and make sure they do their part in keeping all areas of the gym clean and tidy.

Gymnasts must not leave training without the consent of the coaches.

Gymnasts should treat all equipment with respect and must not pick, dismantle or sabotage the equipment.

Gymnasts should not eat or chew gum during a session.

Gymnasts must not use bad language or be rude to anyone.

Gymnasts should remain with the coaches at the end of the session until collected by a parent or guardian.

Gymnasts must ensure that the coaches are aware of any known medical conditions.

Gymnasts must have, and take responsibility for, any medication they may need (eg. Inhaler).

Gymnasts can share any concerns or complaints about any aspect of the club through the approved channels.  This can be through a pre-arranged appointment with a coach, or with one of our welfare officers.

Gymnasts must not smoke, consume alcohol or take drugs of any kind whilst representing the club at competitions or other events.

The use of mobile phones for photography, videoing or any social media activity is strictly prohibited during training sessions, and mobile phones are not permitted in the training areas, unless it has been agreed by a coach.

The Head Coach shall deal with all breaches of the code of conduct in the first instance. Depending on the seriousness of the breach, it may be reported further and action agreed accordingly.

BEHAVIOURAL POLICY

Rewards and Sanctions

We believe in a positive approach to behaviour management based on positive reinforcement, recognition and reward.  Usually this is enough, however, in order to keep all coaches and gymnasts safe during sessions we ensure that all participants keep to club rules and in the case of rules being broken, a gymnast will initially be asked to stop and reminded of the rules.

If the same behaviour continues, they will be given a verbal warning that they are in breach of the rules, and if it continues then further action will be taken which will involve discussing the issue with the gymnast’s parent/guardian at the end of the session.

At this point the gymnast’s behaviour will be recorded in the Club Behaviour Log.

If the same gymnast breaches the rules for more than 3 sessions, the Head Coach may decide to ask the gymnast to miss the following week’s training, to try and help them understand that their behaviour has consequences, and that we require gymnasts to adhere to the Club rules in order to keep everyone safe and make the session enjoyable for all involved.

If the same gymnast continues to breach the rules after this, the gymnast may be asked to leave the Club, as we must consider the safety, well-being and enjoyment of the rest of the class, and the coaches, as well as the individual involved, and it may be that gymnastics is just not the most suitable sport for them.
