Payment, registration, cancellations and absences
- Classes are to be initially booked by the customer and then they will be automatically rebooked each month by the Class Manager online booking system.
- Please do not turn up to a class that you have not booked on to, as we have limited spaces in each session.
- There is no deduction for absence, Shine Theatre School will offer an appropriate ‘make up’ class if possible.
- All payments are to be made using the stripe payments system via Class Manager. We do not accept cash/cheques or bank transfers.
- Any queries regarding invoices or payments should be sent to Miss Wendy by email ([email protected]) Please do not ask the teaching staff, as that is not their area of knowledge.
- Please speak to Miss Wendy should there be any financial concerns BEFORE an invoice is due.
- If Shine Theatre School cancels a class, a ‘make up’ class will be offered in replacement where possible.
- Private lessons and holiday camps and intensives are to be booked and paid for in advance, and we can not refund if cancelled or a ‘no show’ by the student. If Shine Theatre School cancels the private lesson, camp or intensive a refund will be issued.
Late Payment
- Please do pay your invoice on time, Shine is a small business and relies upon this to continue delivering classes.
- An automated reminder has been set up to be delivered to customers 3 days before fees are due, and also on the day they are due, to help customers stay on track.
- If payment is 10 days late an automatic reminder will be sent out via the system and 10% of the total invoice added on to the total.
Leaving a Class
- Thirty days (1 month) written notice via email to [email protected] must be given if a student wishes to stop a particular class and/or leave Shine Theatre School. In the absence of this notice being received, 1 month’s fees will be payable in lieu, from the date that Miss Wendy is made aware.
Medical Conditions & Student Information
- All students must have an online registration form completed and signed by a parent or guardian before participating in class.
- Shine Theatre School's Terms and Conditions (this document) must be agreed to in order to take classes with us. These terms will be agreed to in the form of a ‘tick box’ on digital registration. Please read these terms carefully before you sign up, and only sign up if you agree with our terms.
- Please inform Shine Theatre School of any changes to or onset of any medical condition that may affect your child whilst dancing or participating in a class
- Any changes to contact details for you/your child, particularly emergency contact and/or mobile telephone numbers, should be notified immediately
- Medical information will be shared with teaching staff for regular classes and Licensed Matrons in a performance situation. A care/action plan can also be put in place. Please see Miss Wendy.
Timetable and Classes
Shine Theatre School reserves the right to discontinue or combine a class with another should it be undersubscribed.
Student Code of Conduct
Shine Theatre School requests that all the students and parents/carers read, or are made aware of, and agree to abide by the code of conduct. Our teachers and our pupils have the right to work at and attend Shine without fear of physical or verbal abuse. Swearing, threats and bullying will not be tolerated. Failure to abide by this conduct (either student or parent/guardian) may result in suspension from classes.
Spectating
- Shine Theatre School does not allow spectating in regular classes, and children that are not ready to dance without a parent’s or guardian’s accompaniment are invited to take part in one of our ‘Dance Together’ classes until they are ready to dance unaccompanied
- When space allows, we aim to open certain classes for parental/guardian viewing at the end of each term to come along and watch. Closely supervised siblings are also welcome, though to ensure the safety and concentration of the pupils, parents/carers are asked to remove a sibling from the class should they become disruptive
Waiting on site
- ‘‘Tiny Toes’ classes (Age 2-4) parents may wait on site if absolutely essential.
- Classes for age 5 + we kindly ask parents/guardians to operate a drop off and pick up at the front door system (just like your child’s daytime school)
- We have found since returning after the covid lockdown that having parents drop their children off and pick them up instead of waiting in the studio is not only keeping our building secure doing class hours, but has also created students who are more independent, focused as there are no distractions with noise outside (or wanting to see their parent in the middle of class for a hug or a snack etc), classes are running to schedule more now, and our studio is staying very clean too! We thank you in advance for understanding and supporting us in running great classes that help to teach your children all these fantastic independence skills. (Plus we have a huge Tesco over the bridge with a cafe, and a pub downstairs if you fancy some child free chill out time!)
Photography & Social Media
Unless notified in writing to the contrary, Shine Theatre School assumes that all parents/carers accept that photographs/videos may be taken by Shine Theatre School and used on Social Media or for advertising purposes or training purposes.
Teaching Practise
From time to time, it is necessary for the teachers to use physical contact in order to correctly instruct the pupil correctly and safely. A teacher will always ask permission before engaging in this type of correction or spotting. For training purposes photography and videography may be taken to assist a student / teacher in class.
Examinations/Performances
- If pupils wish to take examinations, they must attend extra exam coaching which allows the teacher to polish the work to the highest possible standard. Exam slips will be issued and must be returned with the full payment for the exam. Exams are not always held at the class venue and will sometimes involve travelling
- If a pupil’s attendance is not regular after they have been entered for an exam, Shine Theatre School reserves the right to withdraw that student from the exam. Refunds cannot be given for entry fee
- It is entirely the principal’s decision when a pupil is ready for an exam or competition, to move to a higher level or begin pointe work.
- From time to time there are performance opportunities whether it be in shows, festivals or being selected to take part in teacher training sessions. In the event of a show, this will be videoed and photographed by a reputable, DBS-checked company
Uniforms/Dance wear & personal grooming
After the free trial period, please wear the correct uniform for class.
Uniform items may be ordered via Shine Theatre School's website. (www.shinetheatreschool.com) Alternatively, you are free to source the uniform independently, but items must adhere to the published uniform list.
Our logo items such as hoodies, t shirts, bags etc may take around 3 weeks to arrive in the post.
We kindly ask that you do not replicate our logo uniform items elsewhere and only purchase from the official supplier on the website.
You do not have to purchase all the uniform in one go, we recommend starting with the correct shoes. Please use the brands we suggest on our shine dance shop website, and resist the cheaper shoes you may find in supermarkets, home bargains, or eBay / wish type sites. A quality shoe will make a lot of different to the look and stability of dance moves, and sound in the case of tap dance.
Please wear long hair in a bun.
No jewellery to be worn for class for safety reasons.
Conflict of interest
Shine Theatre School is a dance school that offers many different styles of classes, with qualified and experienced teachers. Seeking tuition from another dance teacher or school that is not part of Shine is against our ethos and is a practice that is considered unacceptable, disrespectful, unnecessary and a conflict of interest. Students who do wish to attend classes outside of Shine please give your 30 days notice to Miss Wendy that you will be stopping attending Shine so that classes may be pursued with other coaches. Most reputable dance and theatre schools operate under this policy.
If you wish to have private tuition from any teacher at Shine, this can easily be arranged through Miss Wendy, and studio time with the teacher will then be allocated when it becomes available and booked officially through the Class Manager portal. Please do not ask the individual teachers to organise a private lesson as this is against our studio policy.
Choreography & Routines
All choreography and routines (solos, duets groups etc) are property of Shine and must not be used outside of Shine’s classes classes and events without Miss Wendy’s consent.
