Tamborine Mountain Dance Academy Terms and Conditions of Enrolment – 2024

1.0Uniform and Grooming Policy:

1.1Students should only wear the specified dance attire for their age group as set out in the 2024

prospectus.

1.2All Students should maintain high standards of grooming and neatness. This includes:

1.2.1Hair tied in a firm, neat bun at the crown of the head for all classes.

1.2.2Students should always wear dance stockings – Salmon Pink for ballet and Tan for

all other styles. Dance socks are permissible for younger students in hotter weather.

1.2.3Ballet students should have ribbons tucked neatly into shoes.

1.2.4Uniforms should be clean and without stains

1.3No Jewellery or watches are permitted in class as this are a safety hazard.

1.3.1An exception to this rule is a small pair of studs if ears are pierced.

1.3.2Any student wearing jewellery will be asked to remove it before they can participate

in dance class.

1.3.3An exception can to the Jewellery rule if Miss Poppy is notified in writing as to why a

certain jewellery item must be worn (ie. For Religious/Cultural reasons.)

2.0Conditions of Enrolment:

2.1Fees

2.1.1Fees are payable at the beginning of term unless prior arrangement is made in

writing.

2.1.2No refunds are given for students missed classes except in the case of long-term

illness/injury or extended family holidays. Miss Poppy must be given at least 3

weeks’ notice of holidays.

2.1.3Where a previous term account is not settled, the student will not be able to

commence the next term of dance.

2.2Before and After Class

2.2.1All children are the responsibility of the school for the duration of the class only.

Before and after class is the responsibility of the parent/carer.

2.2.2Students should wait in the dance foyer after class. No student should leave or be

waiting outside the Community Centre while waiting for a parent/guardian.

2.2.3Toddlers are not permitted to run around the dance room between classes due to

insurance issues.2.3Preparation/Organisation for Class

2.3.1It is expected that students arrive to class 10-15 minutes early in order to ensure

they are ready and stretched for class.

2.3.2Students participating in back-to-back classes should bring a bag with all required

shoes into class so as to ensure a smooth transition between classes with no

wasting of time. It is advised that younger tap students purchase shoes with a

Velcro clasp so they can easily change between their Jazz and Tap shoes.

2.3.3All students should bring a full water bottle into class with them. The Community

Centre does have a bubbler facility in the case of emergency, but it is kindly asked

that water is brought into class with students so that they do not have to repeated

leave the lesson/waste time.

2.4Viewing Classes

2.4.1Parents are invited to view their child’s classes on the last class of each term. A

reminder email will be sent out about this towards the end of each term.

2.4.2Parents are not permitted to sit in or watch classes in any other week than the final

week of term.

2.5Injuries and Injury Prevention

2.5.1It is critical that students take the opportunity to warm up and stretch in class

before attempting any kicks/jumps/etc. Students arriving late should take 10

minutes to stretch and warm up in order to avoid injury.

2.5.2Students should not attempt any unfamiliar acrobatic tricks without the supervision

of a dance teacher in an Acrobatic dance class.

2.5.3Students should not attempt acrobatic tricks in other classes where they have not

been explicitly instructed to do so.

2.5.4All injuries of any sort whether obtained at dance or outside dance must be

reported to Miss Poppy and an injury form must be completed so that Miss Poppy is

aware of the injury, the degree of injury, any medical or physio care being given, so

that Miss Poppy can assess whether dance classes should be temporarily ceased

depending on the degree of the injury.

2.6Stretch and Strengthening Classes

2.6.1It is strongly advised that all students (6 years +) participate in at least one

stretch/strengthening class. This is critically important as flexibility and strength are

the foundations of dance training. Students should also practise the exercises and

stretches that they learn in this class at home.

2.6.2Students participating in exams and/or eisteddfods are required to participate in at

least one stretch/strengthening class a week.

2.7Other Rules2.7.1Students wishing to participate in Contemporary, Hip Hop or Acrobatic Dance

classes must also currently doing at least one other style.

2.7.2Students wishing to audition for Competition teams must be taking at least 2 other

dance styles (e.g. Ballet + Contemporary, Jazz + Tap, Jazz + Ballet, etc.)

2.7.3All decisions regarding auditioned Competition teams, Concert parts, etc are made

at the discretion of the Principal and are final.

3.0Code of Conduct

3.1Students are expected to follow the Code of Conduct at all times.

3.2We have a no tolerance bullying policy. Any and all incidents should be reported to Miss

Poppy as soon as possible so that the situation can be handled appropriately

3.3Parents are asked to also show respect at all times to teaching staff. Any issues should be

raised with Miss Poppy during Office Hours.

3.4Any student who fails repeatedly to treat their fellow students or teachers with respect may

be asked to leave as per the Code of Conduct.
