At Wightmore School of Dance teachers collaborate to make sure teaching styles are consistent throughout all classes.

When a student performs in a production on stage, attends an audition, enters a dance examination, dances at a competition, attends a summer school or workshop the student is representing Wightmore school of Dance. Not only do we want the child to dance to the best of their ability, but also behave professionally with the upmost respect for people around them.

We teach to the highest possible standard and gain the best possible results in a safe environment.

Medical/Injury Information

The responsibility lies with the parent/guardian as to the fitness of the child to attend and you must inform the school if you child has an injury or a medical condition e.g Asthma which may affect his/her ability to perform in class.

All children with asthma must have an inhaler with them for all dance classes.

Please inform us of any allergies.

Dancing is a physical skill. The teaching of dance requires the students to be aware of technical placement within their own anatomical range. This will involve teachers whilst taking the class to place the body in the correct positions and alignment which also helps pupils develop an awareness of certain muscle groups. To help our students reach a high standard not only in performance but also in examination success, teachers will need occasionally to physically guide a movement by touch. This will be in a professional manner and the intention of the contact will be made clear.

In class pupils will occasionally need help with uniform. Also during any shows it may be necessary for teachers and or helpers to assist in changing pupils into costumes. For your peace of mind all teachers and helpers of the school are DBS checked.

Pupils are not supervised until they come into their class, so please do not leave pupils who need help and supervision unattended. All children under 5 years must have a parent downstairs in the waiting area, if their son/daughter needs help with toileting.

The front door at the United Methodist Church, St Peter Street, must always be kept locked for the children’s safety. Please ring the bell on arrival and always make sure the door is locked by someone after you leave. Sometimes the bell can be difficult to hear when music is being played. If you are waiting downstairs please assist letting students in through the door.
